Music must have soul in it. If it does not, it sounds generic, without purpose, it does not groove the same. With all the VSTs and sample libraries around, it is possible for anybody to create any music imaginable. But with virtual instruments, the soul of the music easily vanishes.
When programming virtual instruments, the human element often gets quantized out. You can easily correct the human errors and create the perfect played parts. But when overdoing this, the soul leaves the music.
That is, where my philosophy of writing and producing music for media like movies, films, advertising, cartoons or games comes in. Instead of programming MIDI, which play the VSTs, I like to play those VSTs. As I studied the piano, I have a clear advantage in that matter. I still record my MIDI performance, but I do not quantize. Instead, I listen to what is played back and if something bothers me, I correct it. Like this, the human element is left in the music.
Another big thing of my production philosophy is the recording of real instruments. This is actually the place where I come from. I really enjoy to try out different microphones on different sources and experiment with the placement of those. To me, mic choice and mic placement is part of the sound design. I choose differently if I need an intimate trumpet sound then if I want to record for example the lead trumpet of a big band.
What sets my productions apart from others, is that I like to combine VSTs with real instruments, synthesizers with acoustic instruments, electric guitars with orchestra sounds. Like this, it is possible to get big, epic music with the human element still in it without actually needing the budget for all the musicians. There are no compromises made, so that the sound and the soul of the music convey the genuine message.
As a multi-instrumentalist, I can record different instruments by myself and put the human element in the music I create for your media. Whether it is a big epic orchestra with electric guitars and synth-pads on it, a small Jazz combo or solo instruments, whether it is an electronic dance beat, classical piece or Pop music, I can provide you with that sound.
